This Year's Themes

Staying true to our mantra "why not change the world?", we're excited to introduce special tracks in Environmental Awareness and Sustainability, Data Privacy, and Accessibility in Education to tackle current problems in tech facing our world today.

world icon
Environmental Awareness and Sustainability
Create an idea that tackles the drastically changing climate due to factors such as global warming. They can create a project that advocates for protection and sustainability to the world. This can also include the use of data and data visualization.

world icon
Data Privacy
Create an innovative privacy solution that improves the privacy of the user or raises awareness and helps users understand the privacy implications of actions while using technology.

world icon
Accessibility in Education
Create an idea that improves the way education is accessed in some way. Recognizing the moral obligation to build a more conducive and inclusive education system will, in turn, create an ecosystem of a well-educated, skilled workforce that can build and grow companies and contribute to a better tech future.

Questions?

Q. What if I have no experience?

A. You're in luck! Hackathons are the perfect place to learn and develop your skills. Whatever you're trying to accomplish, there will be tons of support, from workshops to mentors, all there to help make your HackRPI experience awesome.

Q. How do teams work at hackathons?

A. Working together with a team up to 4 members is highly encouraged. Of course you can hack solo, but there will be time after registration to join a team or create one.

Q. What should I bring?

A. Bring a valid ID (your student ID will be fine!), your laptop and charger, and enthusiasm! Make sure you bring some comfortable clothes and anything else you might need... and a toothbrush wouldn't be a bad idea. 😁

Q. How much does it cost to attend?

A. Nothing! Thank our sponsors for helping make this possible.

Q. Who's allowed to come?

A. If you're a high school student, undergraduate, graduate, or graduated within the past 12 months, please come through! Call for volunteers will open soon but we're looking for mentors now.

Q. What can I win?

A. We strongly believe the goal of hackathons shouldn't be to win but to try out new technologies you haven't had the time to, or make connections with new people! However, yes, there will be awesome prizes. Check out past prizes here.
